Chevening Scholarships 2023/2024

The Chevening British Library Fellowship is a program where people from around the world can work on a project at the British Library for one year. It is a partnership between the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the British Library. People who are chosen as fellows will have the special opportunity to work with a big library's

collections. They will also get help and advice from the library staff, who are experts in their fields. Please understand that this fellowship is not appropriate for individuals who wish to conduct their own research.

Chevening British Library Fellowship Benefits/Value of Programme

• 12-month period of project-based activity at the British Library
• Living expenses for the duration of the fellowship
• Return economy airfare from their home country to the UK
• Allowance package for fellowship-related activities
• Up to £1,000 for approved project-related expenses

Who Can Apply For Chevening Scholarships

Talented young leaders from around the world can study in the UK for a year to earn master's degrees, thanks to the Chevening program.

If you meet all the requirements, you are welcome to apply. Everyone is treated the same regardless of their gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, marital status, parental status, caste, class, or any other traits. What matters is if you can send in a well-prepared application that shows that you can do well in a challenging master's degree in the UK and that you can explain what your future goal is.

Eligibility For Chevening Scholarship Award

To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship you must:

1. Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
2. Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended.
3. Have completed all components of an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university by the time you submit your application. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK but may be different depending on your course and university choice.
4. Have at least two years (equivalent to 2,800 hours) of work experience.
5. Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices

You are not eligible for a Chevening Scholarship if you:

1. Hold British or dual British citizenship (unless you are a citizen of a British Overseas Territory or hold BN(O) and are applying from Hong Kong).
2. Hold refugee status in a non-Chevening eligible country. Applicants who are citizens of a Chevening-eligible country and who hold refugee status in a Chevening-eligible country are eligible for a scholarship.
3. Are an employee, a former employee, or relative* of an employee of Her Majesty’s Government, or have been within the last two years from the opening of Chevening applications (including the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, all British Embassies/High Commissions, the Home Office, the Ministry of Defence, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, the Department for International Trade and the UKVI), the British Council, a sponsoring UK university, or a staff member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
4. Employees, former employees, or relatives* of an employee of Chevening Partner organisations are eligible to apply, but if the employment took place within the last two years, you cannot receive a Chevening Partner Award from the organisation from which you work, previously worked, or are affiliated with through relatives.
5. Have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship.

Does Having A Master Degree Prevent Me From Applying?

If you already have a master's degree, you can still apply for a Chevening Award to get a second master's degree in the UK. However, you need to explain how this second degree will help you achieve your career plan of making positive changes in your home country.

Chevening Scholarship Screening Process

After you send in your application, we use a computer program to check if you meet our requirements. Any applications that are not eligible will be taken out of the selection process. Please look at the list of mistakes that are usually made here. If you make these mistakes on your application form, your application will not be accepted.
Please remember that once you have submitted your application, it cannot be changed afterwards.

Application Timeline For Chevening Scholarships
